The Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Violence Free Colorado reserve the right to decline exhibitors that may conflict with the mission of the conference.

CCASA and Violence Free Colorado support an empowerment philosophy for supporting survivors and holding perpetrators accountable. We believe that that the only person responsible for preventing an assault is the person who is going to commit it. A victim is never at fault for their assault, no matter what they do (or don’t do). Additionally, we believe that survivors should be presented with information about all of their options and supported in deciding and acting on what will work best for them in their specific situation. Exhibitors at our conference must support and promote this philosophy within their own work.

Because we frequently receive information and requests to share “self-defense” services and “personal safety” products at our conference, we have also developed the following statement:

Self-Defense and Personal Safety Products

We recognize that for some people, personal empowerment and self-advocacy involves learning any number of personal protection strategies. However, we believe that personal empowerment and protection strategies differ from traditional self-defense courses that primarily focus on physical defense strategies to be used in an instance of stranger assault. While we understand that stranger assault does occur, what we know is the vast majority of violence occurs between people who know each other, which presents unique challenges. Additionally, assaults happen within a cultural context that blames victims and excuses perpetrators. We believe that, in order to truly be empowering, personal empowerment and protection strategies must address these underlying conditions and work to break them down. Therefore, to be considered as an exhibitor at our conference, “self-defense” programs must provide a holistic approach that incorporates these beliefs.

The deadline to purchase a table is May 19, 2020.

Payments can be made by credit card or check. All exhibitors must complete and returned a signed exhibitor form with payment. If paying by check, it must be received by May 29, 2020.
