Immigration Relief for Victims of Workplace Crime and Discrimination

In this workshop, I plan to address immigration relief for victims of crime and discrimination in the workplace.  In the workplace, immigrant communities are often targets of threats based upon immigrant or undocumented status, discrimination (race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, age) and crime in the workplace, such as assault, blackmail, and abusive sexual contact, just to name a few.  Undocumented workers can find immigration relief through a U Visa, which is a visa granted where an individual has been a victim of crime.  This workshop will also address which types of workplace crimes qualify for the U Visa, which government agencies can certify the U Visa, and how to show substantial harm as a result of the qualifying crime.  Other issues to be addressed include whether or not discrimination alone is sufficient for a U visa, the U Visa certification process, and other tips for assisting workplace victims of crime.
