Navigating and Using the Numerous Aspects of Colorado’s Legal System – Part 2
This workshop is designed to help advocates understand the different legal options and strategies that can be utilized by survivors. In addition, we will provide guidance on how advocates can best support survivors through those processes. The workshop will provide examples of brave survivors who successfully navigated and utilized numerous aspects of Colorado’s legal system—including the criminal justice system, civil system, Colorado Civil Rights Division, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, social services, and immigration processes—to ultimately obtain justice.
These survivors, women whom we represented for years as their victims’ advocates and attorneys, demonstrated tremendous courage when testifying in hearings, depositions, and jury trials against their perpetrators. They were shamed and shunned, but they ultimately prevailed, generating policy shifts and social changes along the way. We hope their stories and pathways to success can serve as a model and beacon for other survivors.
