A Comprehensive Approach to Teen Dating Violence Prevention

In this session, presenters will provide background on teen dating violence, discuss the obligations K-12 schools have to address these issues, and help participants understand how to better partner with schools to promote healthy relationship behaviors. Our teen dating violence prevention model utilizes a comprehensive and coordinated approach to build a culture of respectful relationship behaviors. Our program provides secondary schools with strategies designed to prevent teen dating violence through a three-pronged approach: self (increased self-reflection and awareness), peers (recognizing relationship “red flags”), and community (social change). We provide evidence-based approaches to teen dating violence prevention, and offer curricular, co-curricular and athletic programming options. This session will examine specific programming elements such as the Safe Dates curriculum, Coaching Boys Into Men, bystander intervention training, and others to help participants understand how best to engage youth in their community and will provide ideas about innovative prevention of teen dating violence in their schools and communities.
