Evidence of compassionate care: How one Forensic Nursing Department took victim advocacy from good to great!

Three years ago, a team of emergency room nurses saw a need for better care of forensic patients and created a stand-alone department that could offer immediate, individualized, and trauma-informed care to them. They creatively developed policies, procedures and a positive work environment that would allow for the best possible patient experiences and outcomes, and provided community outreach so that more at-risk patients could be identified. The benefits are being realized by all involved.
