Working with Native American Victims in Colorado

Native Americans experience the highest rates of domestic violence and sexual assault in the nation and Colorado has over 60,000 Native Americans living with in its state boundaries. Native Americans remain an invisible population as many Colorado programs do not identify they are working with this population nor have staff had any specific training on how to conduct outreach and work with this population. This workshop will engage participants in developing an understanding of the Native American population in Colorado while assisting participants with developing an understanding of multi-generational trauma that many Native people live with. In addition, participants will develop strategies for building their programmatic capacity to more adequately serve Native American victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Colorado.
